Appointments – What's coming up in the 11th month?

  • U6 check-up: The last scheduled examination by your pediatrician was some months ago now. If the U6 was not performed in the tenth month, it can be carried out now. In this check-up the pediatrician examines your baby with regard to age-appropriate language and motor skills. This examination is important in order to detect possible delays or postural problems and to be able to take measures to support development.

  • Vaccination: The so-called six-in-one vaccination can be given in up to four partial doses. If you have decided in favor of vaccination, the final vaccine dose may, in some cases, be due in the eleventh month to ensure adequate protection.

Important developmental milestones in the 11th month

  • Mobility: Many babies can already move around well on their own at eleven months. In addition to belly-crawling and crawling, some children also use bottom-shuffling (scooting), which can replace crawling.

  • “Gathering momentum”: Many babies “gather momentum” to start crawling. While lying on their stomach, your baby pulls their legs under their body and supports themselves on their arms. They rock back and forth until they finally begin to move.

  • Standing: By the end of the eleventh month some babies can stand securely and unassisted. The sense of balance and their muscles are often sufficiently developed to allow them to bend their knees from a standing position and pick up objects.

  • “Vroom vroom”: Whereas before it was mostly random sounds your baby made, it now begins to use recurring syllables for certain objects: the moving car goes “vroom vroom”, the dog “woof woof”.

  • Communication: At eleven months your baby already knows many sounds. It increasingly tries to communicate with you and laughs a lot. Listen attentively to your baby when it “talks” to you — this will encourage it to practice speaking.

  • Independence: Your child is motivated to move around without your help. Nevertheless, it is important that you always stay close by.

How much should my child weigh at 11 months?

Your little one appears a bit slimmer in the belly, arms and legs and the small face is less rounded. Your baby continues to gain weight and strengthens its muscles through active movement. Body weight is normally between 8,700 and 9,400 grams, height between 73 and 75 centimeters.
