Before you start decorating for the party, first you need to make the Invitations for guests to be made. Simple motifs work well here, such as horseshoes, horse heads or rosette ribbons, which you cut from construction paper and write on. If your child rides and you have a nice photo of them on a horse, you can ideally use that on the invitation. If you have little time to plan the party, of course also suitable are pre-made invitation cards with a horse motif to write on.

Once the invitations are sent, the appropriate decor of course must not be missing. The little horse enthusiasts feel especially comfortable in the stable with their favorite animals. For decoration, anything that you would also find in a horse stable and that belongs to classic birthday parties is suitable:

  • Straw or straw bales, which also work well as seating

  • Horse equipment such as e.g. horse grooming kit, halters, saddles and riding helmets

  • Apples, carrots and similar treats

  • rosette ribbons

  • plates, cups and garlands with horse motifs

  • pennant banners, balloons and other party decorations

You can also create the right pony flair with hobby horses and jute sacks as well as small horse figurines to create the right pony flair. The best part: these items can also be used as toys.

Games & Activities: Entertainment for the horse birthday party

A horse party also includes the right games. Your child and their friends surely already have ideas about what they would most like to play. To make sure it definitely doesn't get boring, we have a few more game ideas for your horse birthday party:

Hobbyhorse races

Brown, pinto or grey – every child has their own idea of their favorite horse. With a hobbyhorse craft kit the young riders can design their own pony and gallop around. With a starting line and stopwatch you can easily invent your own horse race – ideally followed by an award ceremony including rosette ribbons.

Horseshoe toss

This game works best in the garden. For this, beforehand get a few horseshoes, for example from a local riding stable or a farrier. For playing, stick a wooden post or branch into the ground. Then choose a suitable distance at which the children line up. Each child gets a horseshoe and tries to throw it as close as possible to the post. The child who is closest wins. If you prefer to play indoors, cardboard horseshoes and a bucket filled with straw make a suitable target.

Show jumping

Build a small obstacle course together with the kids in your home or garden. This works well with buckets, broom handles, cardboard boxes and ropes. Additionally set up small slalom cones. Let your creativity run free! Afterwards the children jump – with or without a hobbyhorse – over the obstacles. Anyone who wants can come up with a scoring system for particularly nice jumps.

Cakes & Snacks: Treats for hungry riders

Riding makes you hungry! Tasty snacks and a fitting cake satisfy the hunger of the little horse fans. Even before the themed party, anticipation grows through baking together for the upcoming kids' birthday. Recipe ideas for horse parties are very easy to implement: With simple decorations like small marzipan carrots or horseshoes on birthday cakes or muffins you continue the party theme. Non-edible accessories like paper cutouts on skewers make quite an impression. Also, crunchy apple slices as well as sandwiches and cookies cut into horse shapes give energy for the next ride.
