Building for every age

Building blocks from HABA are as individual and unique as your little ones. The versatile building block sets are perfect for building, stacking, fitting together, and discovering. And it's so exciting to watch how the little ones develop while playing with wooden building blocks! In infancy it's still about the first discovery of colors and shapes, shortly after stacked and crafted with intense concentration, with all their might:

Wooden building blocks for babies

With all their senses, your child explores the blocks from about six months of age. How do they taste, what sounds do they make? How do they look? Shape, size, weight – everything is examined closely. And suddenly your child notices: the block stays upright when I put it on the floor! Our tip: Simple natural blocks are particularly suitable for the first discoveries. Their natural material, wood, is already easy for the smallest to grasp. So they can fully focus on the discovering the shapes of the blocks concentrate.

To their heart's content, your child tries out what they can do with the blocks. They are shaken, knocked against each other and rubbed together. Playfully, your child slowly learns to build: place one block on the floor and hold a second on top of it without letting go. Simple shapes appeal to the youngest one's exploratory instinct and promote important skills such as fine motor skills. What children like: smashing blocks together – that sounds exciting and isgood for hand-eye coordination!

Your child now builds piles with the blocks and forms long rows, both horizontally and vertically. In "air building" it assembles the blocks in the air with both hands. By letting go and focused observation of the blocks your child masters the next building steps. Another developmental step: Children perceive the blocks as independent objects and relate them to others.

With enthusiasm, your child begins to new creations to build: When stacking, first towers and houses emerge. At first crooked and wobbly, they grow upwards and become stable structures. Your child builds the first imaginative buildings with the blocks, later with gaps and bridges. By ensuring balance in their construction, it grasps structural stability.Inventiveness and creativity.

Read here how building blocks transform the children's room into a colorful play world every day:

LITTLE ARCHITECTS

1. First experiences in city building

True stacking artists build increasingly higher and larger with cubes, cylinders and cuboids, and they think further or sometimes outside the box. With imaginative construction sets and buildings they discover the third dimension and new play spaces. Perhaps they have already visited large cities that they now recreate in the children's room? Their imagination knows no bounds!

2. Test balance with building blocks

Children have a lot of fun doing this, stacking building blocks, panels and slats as high as possible. It's not so easy, though, to keep the ingenious constructions balanced. It gets especially exciting when they experiment with cube scales and try to keep them balanced. If they are already a bit more experienced, they can work with advanced scales with balls – but be careful, the risk of wobbling is very high! Thus, in their own bedroom, children playfully get to know basic physical laws.

3. Experiences in bridge building

When children start playing with building blocks, bridges are also among their first constructions. At first the building blocks are placed on top of each other in a compact construction without gaps in a row. Later the children become bolder, leave gaps between the blocks. And finally the masterful gap-building to an exciting challenge. With skill and a delicate touch, artful bridges with gaps, which even toy cars can later drive across.

4. Stairs & roofs are formed from building blocks

Children mainly build with building blocks what they know from their everyday lives, for example Stairs and roofs. In our range there are stair blocks, rods and slats, with which they can build up step by step in multi-storey building projects. Also indispensable when playing with building blocks are the triangular blocks, which complete the classic triangular roof in children's house building.

WHAT ARE YOU BUILDING THERE?

5. Talking about the children's structures

Young architects learn to build independently through free play. Their natural curiosity and creativity guide them. Sometimes building also gives rise to a role play, which you as parents can join. You can accompany your child verbally while building and talk with them about their ideas. Celebrate their successes with them, the first house, the tower that is stable, and thus create a constructive interaction. This also strengthens their self-confidence for new building attempts.
