Building for every age

HABA building blocks are as individual and unique as your little ones. The varied building block sets are perfect for building, stacking, fitting and discovering. And it's so exciting to watch how the little ones develop while playing with wooden blocks! In infancy it is still about the first discovery of colors and shapes, a little later are stacked and crafted with intense concentration, with all their might:

Wooden building blocks for babies

From about six months, your child explores the blocks with all their senses. How do they taste, what sounds do they make? What do they look like? Shape, size, weight – everything is examined closely. And suddenly your child notices: The block stays standing when I put it on the floor! Our tip: Simple natural blocks are particularly suitable for the first discoveries. Their natural material, wood, is already easy for even the smallest to grasp. This allows them to fully concentrate on the discovering the shapes of the blocks concentrate.

Wooden building blocks from 12 months

Your child eagerly explores all the things they can do with the blocks. They are shaken, knocked against each other and rubbed together. By playing, your child gradually learns to build: placing one block on the floor and holding a second on top without letting go. Simple shapes appeal to the youngest children's urge to explore and playfully foster important skills such as their fine motor skills. What children like: smashing blocks together – that sounds exciting and is good for hand-eye coordination!

Wooden building blocks from age 2

Your child builds piles with the blocks and forms long rows, both horizontally and vertically. In 'air building' it assembles the blocks in the air with both hands. By letting go and careful observation of the blocks your child masters the next construction steps. Another developmental step: Children experience the blocks as independent objects and relate them to other objects.

Wooden building blocks from age 3

With enthusiasm your child begins, new creations to build: When stacking, the first towers and houses emerge. At first crooked and wobbly, they grow upward and become stable structures. Your child builds the first imaginative buildings in block form, later with gaps and bridges. By ensuring balance in their construction, it grasps structural stability. In free play, kids inventiveness and creativity.

5 inspiring games with wooden building blocks

Whether it's clever balancing acts with colorful building blocks, building your own dream cities with bridges and skyscrapers, or creative role-play with playmates – building blocks offer so much room for individual play! Read here how building blocks transform the children's room into a colorful play world every day:

LITTLE ARCHITECTS

1. First experiences in city building

Real stacking artists build increasingly higher and larger with cubes, cylinders and cuboids and in doing so they think further or sometimes think outside the box. With imaginative building sets and structures they discover the third dimension and new play spaces. Maybe they've already visited big cities themselves, which they now recreate in the children's room? Their imagination knows no bounds!

2. Test balance with building blocks

Children have a lot of fun, stacking blocks, panels and slats as high as possible. It's not that easy to keep the original constructions in balance. It gets particularly exciting when they experiment with cube scales and try to keep them balanced. If they are already a bit more experienced, they can work with advanced scales with balls – but be careful, a very high risk of wobbling! This way children playfully get to know basic physical laws.

3. Experiences in bridge building

When children begin to play with building blocks, bridges are also among their first constructions. At first the blocks are stacked tightly in a row without gaps. Later the children become bolder, leave gaps between the blocks. And finally the masterful gap-building to become an exciting challenge. With dexterity and a delicate touch, intricate bridges with gaps, over which even toy cars can later drive.

4. Stairs & roofs are formed from building blocks

Children build with blocks primarily what they know from their everyday life, for example stairs and roofs. In our range there are stair blocks, sticks and slats, with which they can build step by step upwards in multi-storey building projects. Also essential when playing with blocks are the triangular blocks, which complete the classic triangular roof in children's house-building.

WHAT ARE YOU BUILDING THERE?

5. Talking about the children's structures

Young architects learn to build independently through free play. Their natural curiosity and creativity guide them. Sometimes building also leads to a role play, which you as parents can join in. You can accompany your child verbally while building and talk with them about their ideas. Celebrate with them their successes, the first house, the tower that is stable and thus create a constructive cooperation. That also strengthens their self-confidence for new building attempts.
