Practical tips for healthy eating & drinking at school
In the hustle and bustle of everyday life it is sometimes not so easy to always prepare something healthy for the school break. We have a few tips and tricks for you on how to make this easy:
Planning is everything: Always include school meals separately on your weekly shopping list. Think about what you want to prepare for the children each day and write it down. That way you make sure you have everything for packed lunches & co. in the fridge.
Include children: Of course you can also plan together with the children and ask them what they feel like.
Healthy & practical snack options: Buy for the lunchbox, for example, vegetables, fruit, wholegrain bread, cream cheese, nuts and yogurt. Choose foods that are nutrient-rich and provide enough energy for the day. Also remember when shopping that you need to cut the snacks into bite-sized pieces to pack them into the lunchbox.
Healthy drinks for school: You can, for example, give your children unsweetened tea to take to school; fruit tea is popular with many children. But water with a squeeze of lemon or sparkling water is also healthy and refreshing. If your children insist on juice, you can mix fruit juice with sparkling water.
Preparation time in the evening: If mornings sometimes get hectic, you can pack the lunchbox the evening before. Cut the vegetables into small pieces that you can easily keep separate from the packed lunch in our divided lunchboxes.

Label the lunchboxes or water bottles with a waterproof pen or stick on a name sticker on it.
Encourage your child to always store their lunchbox and water bottle in a fixed place in their school backpack. That way it's noticeable when something is missing.
Routine is everything: If your child gets into the habit of putting the lunchbox and the water bottle back in the bag after the break, it will become a habit and they will forget them less often.
