Do It Yourself: How to bake Titus Tentacle cookies

You need:

For the dough:
150g butter, softened
100g sugar
1 packet of vanilla sugar
1 egg
2 level tsp baking powder
300g flour
1 - 2 tablespoons of milk in case the dough is too dry

To decorate:

Chocolate icing or powdered sugar and food coloring for coating, then candy pieces or sugar pearls, sugar pen or white chocolate

Additional equipment:

Pastry board, rolling pin, small knife, large knife with a broad blade or similar for lifting the cookies, baking paper, pastry brush

This is how it’s done:

Knead a smooth dough from the ingredients and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Divide the dough in half and place on a pastry board sprinkled with flour. The rolling pin should also be rubbed with a little flour.

Roll out the dough about 0.5 cm thick and use a small sharp knife to cut out a Titus Tentacle shape with 4 octopus arms.

Carefully remove the Titus Tentacle figure from the dough. This is best done with a broad knife or a spatula.

Place the Titus Tentacle figures some distance apart on baking paper on a baking tray.

Preheat oven to 180°C. Leave the cookies to bake for about 10 minutes until golden brown. Note: If the tips of the octopus arms are slightly brown, the cookies need to be removed from the oven.

While the cookies cool, the chocolate icing can be melted. Have the candy pieces, sugar pen or white chocolate (for his mouth) and pastry brush ready.

Brush the Titus Tentacle cookies with chocolate icing and press the candy pieces into the liquid chocolate to form the eyes and suckers. Once the glaze has dried, paint a mouth with the sugar pen or white chocolate.

If you prefer, you can mix a coating of powdered sugar and red food coloring to brush onto your Titus Tentacle cookies. The face can be painted with a sugar pen.

Job done! Now your Titus Tentacle cookies are ready to be served. Enjoy!
