"The Prince and the Town Musicians"
(Kaspar comes onto the stage)
Tri-tratrullala, tri-tra-trullala, Kasper's back! Hello children! I am here! Are you all ready to hear a story ?
Children, I have a story I want to tell you. Do you know the story of the Prince and the Town Musicians?
No? Then watch and find out how the story goes!
(Kasper leaves the stage, the prince enters with his pouch in his hands.)
I'm so happy, I'm so happy, I'm off to the circus! I'm so happy, I'm so happy! How great is it that I have saved so much of my allowance that I can afford the ticket! I love the circus, it is always so much fun!
(the pirate waits on the other side behind the curtain, and jumps out when he sees the prince)
Stopwhere you are and put your hands up! I am the nasty pirate and no one can stop me!
Oh no! It's the nasty pirate. Whatever am I to do?
(the prince holding his pouch puts his hands up)
Hey, what's going on here? It's Prince Maximilian. And what have you got in your hands, my little prince?
Where? Here in my pouch? Nothing. Just … old socks that I'm taking to the laundry.
Really, just old laundry, you say? I don't believe you. I think you've got your allowance in there. I overheard what you were saying before. But your visit to the circus won't turn out as you wish, little prince, because it's me who is going to the circus!
(the pirate takes the prince's pouch and disappears from the stage)
Help! Help! I've been robbed! I've been robbed! The nasty pirate has stolen my money pouch! Children, please help me! Can you call my friend Kasper? Let's shout out loud together "Kasper"!
(the children shout with him, Kasper comes on stage)
Yes, who is crying out for me?
Kasper, I am so glad you are here.. Please help me! The nasty pirate stole my allowance and now I can't go to the circus anymore.
Oh no! The pirate? It will be tough to get your allowance back. But I do have an idea! Come with me, prince!
(Kasper and the prince leave the stage, on the other side two musical puppets appear.)
It's so boring to just perform in a circus and do tricks. Come on, Elephant, let's start a band.
That's a good idea. I'll play the bagpipes and you can beat the drum, and we can both sing together. What do you think?
Yay!! That will be awesome! Let's get started right away!
(Ringing Donkey and Ringing Elephant make "music" together and sing to it in a wonderfully quirky way)
Toorally – I-Aah – Toorally – Toorally – I–Aah – Toorally – I-Aah – Toorally – Toorally – I–Aah
(the prince and Kasper arrive and cover their ears)
Kasper, what's is all this noise? Are there ghosts wailing? Did someone step on a cat's tail?
That is music, my dear prince. And that's how we'll get your allowance back. Just wait and see.
(Kasper takes his hands off his ears and goes over to the ringing animals)
What did I hear? What's that wonderful sound? I think there must be an opera house nearby! Are the two of you opera singers?
No, we're not opera singers, we are both circus animals...
But maybe we're just as good as opera singers! We'd love to sing in an opera house, but we don't know how to get there.
Now, that's where I can help you. The opera director's house is in the forest behind the big mountains. If you two go there and give a little concert tonight, he's sure to give you a spot at the opera as first and second singers.
(Ringing Donkey and Ringing Elephant go off)
Do you know where the opera director lives?
No, I don't, but I sent the donkey and the elephant over to the pirate's house. And if they sing there just as beautifully as they did here, then I would be astonished if the pirate didn't take to his heels immediately.
(Prince and Kasper leave, the pirate appears on the other side.)
Now that I' m safe here in front of my house, I can count how much money I stole from the prince.
(Ringing Donkey and Ringing Elephant come on from the other side and stop when they see the pirate)
Look, there's someone. He must be the opera director.
Well, then let's just start singing and playing. After three? Children, can you count us down? One, two, three!
Toorally – I-Aah – Toorally – Toorally – I–Aah – Toorally – I-Aah – Toorally – Toorally – I–Aah
Help! What is that awful noise? It sounds like ghosts are coming for me! Help! Help! I'd better run away fast!
(the pirate runs away leaving the bag behind, the two ringing animals follow him, when the pirate is gone, Kasper and the prince come on stage and the prince has his bag back in his hands)
Kasper, that worked just great! Look, I've got my allowance back.
That was fun, wasn't it children? Now you've gotten your allowance back, you can go to the circus. But take some earplugs with you, because who knows, maybe the donkey and the elephant in the circus will want to sing again!
