Idea & motivation
Politics and the school system are responding to the challenges of digitalization very hesitantly. The euphoria about the Digital Pact has meanwhile given way to great skepticism – and the further path is uncertain. At the same time, the demand for digital learning opportunities for children is huge. "With the HABA Digital Workshop Box, we are giving families for the first time the chance to turn their own living room into a small digital workshop. Children and parents can approach the digital world together, regardless of their prior knowledge, where they live, or the offerings at school," summarizes the founder of the HABA Digital Workshop, Verena Pausder, the motivation for our box.
Goals & target audience
At its core, our HABA Digital Workshop Box is aimed at children between 5 and 10 years old. At this age, children are especially curious and open to new technologies. Even more crucial for us is that girls at this age bring the same passion for digital things as boys. We absolutely must harness this potential. For parents and grandparents, godmothers and uncles, as well as for teachers, we want to be a competent and reliable adviser and partner. We support you in preparing your children for the digital future both responsibly and mindfully and with great joy – and in making them digitally strong!
Implementation
With our HABA Digital Workshop Box, children not only learn to program but also gain a holistic understanding of technology and comprehensive media education. For this, our team has designed 2 boxes with digital learning projects each month – for 5- to 7-year-olds and for 8- to 10-year-olds. Each box contains both programming tasks, for example for the open-source program Scratch, and kid-friendly tinkering projects. The children are supported and accompanied in the projects by our Logis Blu, Redy, Sonnik and Croc. The four friends are very different; they have special talents and quirks. From the Logis, children learn that different characteristics, abilities and approaches are valuable.
