Inside wet, outside dry: HABA water play mats are filled with water and encased in a soft fabric cover that lets babies lie on them comfortably. Through large viewing windows they can look into the colourful underwater world where — depending on the mat's theme — a variety of sea creatures swim by. The elements in the water can be moved easily by hand. As the children lie on their tummies, they have to push themselves up slightly while playing. This strengthens the neck and back muscles from the start and helps develop motor skills. At the same time, the lovely floating effect delights little ones and stimulates their imagination. For children who are still a little nervous around water, water play mats are ideal for helping them overcome that hesitation. From what age is a water play mat suitable for your child?
As with any other toy, the moment when a child discovers a liking or interest for it is just as individual as the child itself. In general, HABA water play mats are recommended for babies from 6 months. By that age most infants have developed enough physically to push their upper body up while lying on their tummy and to remain in that position for a while. That allows your child to explore the underwater world thoroughly!
How do HABA water play mats work?
HABA water play mats hold around 1.6 litres of water. They are easily filled via a valve with a diameter of just over two centimetres. This valve also ensures a secure seal. We naturally ensure high-quality workmanship so that babies cannot (accidentally) open the water play mat. If you wish, you can boil the water before filling to prevent algae and germ growth. Once the water has cooled to a pleasant temperature, it can be poured into the mat so your child lies on a warm surface while playing. The entire water play mat can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. By the way: the fabric cover is removable and can be washed at 30°C on a gentle cycle.
