Appointments and activities – what's on in the 22nd month?
Check shoe size:At 22 months, children's feet often grow quite quickly – sometimes by up to two centimeters per month. To ensure the feet still fit comfortably in the shoes, you should regularly check whether your child's shoes still fit. When buying shoes, be sure to measure the shoe size correctly and choose good quality: a flexible sole allows children to roll their foot. In the sandbox or at home on the carpet, toddlers are still best off barefoot.
Important developmental milestones in the 22nd month
Walking: The child's movements and posture become increasingly confident and more upright. At 22 months, most toddlers walk with a narrower stance and no longer have an arched back. When walking, they now place their feet more parallel to each other.
Hearing/Vision: Playing with building blocks not only improves dexterity but also trains hearing and vision. By banging or rubbing the blocks together, toddlers become sensitive to different sounds and volumes. Colors, shapes and small details train visual perception.
Fine motor skills: Putting together, stacking or pulling objects such as building blocks or other motor skill toys is no longer a problem for most children. It trains dexterity and the coordination of eyes and hands.
Understanding: Two-part instructions can now also be understood. However, if the tasks are too difficult and cannot be completed, this can result in frustration and anger.
Imitation: Toddlers learn a lot by imitation: whether parents, other children or animals – by copying, the little ones adopt certain behaviors.
Playing independently:Toddlers can now occupy themselves for a certain amount of time: they play with building blocks or look at a picture book – but they also enjoy it when someone joins them.
Demands:Little by little, your child will repeatedly make demands. Their own will continues to develop.
