Appointments and activities – What's coming up in the 24th month?

  • Meeting other children: When in contact with other toddlers, children increasingly engage with each other. If the little ones previously mostly played side by side, communication now begins to take place. Through interacting with other children, your toddler learns social skills. They learn to share and to express themselves. Playgroups or afternoons at the playground are a good opportunity to bring your child into contact with peers – and they give parents the chance to connect.

  • Celebrating a child's birthday: Your baby will turn two this month! That's a reason to celebrate. In good weather you can spend the day in the park or garden. A visit to the lake will surely also please your child. In bad weather, simply make yourselves comfortable indoors. With tasty cake and pretty decorations everyone can enjoy the day – and hopefully your toddler especially.

In the 24th month, children like to be somewhat self-centered and often use words like "I" or "mine" to make clear what belongs to them.

  • Tantrums:Smaller tantrums continue to be common. At 24 months the defiant phase is approaching and toddlers can react a bit more strongly when they don't get their way.

  • Self-awareness: At two years your child's self-awareness develops more and they now recognize themselves in the mirror.

  • Motor skills: Your child is making great progress in movement and motor skills. They become more agile and confident in their movements, and can walk and climb better. Their feet roll off properly when walking. When you play with a ball, your child may even be able to catch it a few times.
