School trip checklist - What to bring?
How much clothing for school trips? If the children only go on a school trip for three to five days, the luggage can be reduced. As a rule of thumb: plan one fresh set of underwear and socks per day, plus two extra underwear sets. Also plan two pairs of pants per week and one fresh shirt or other top per day.
What else to buy for the school trip? Use our packing list for the school trip to check in good time whether any clothing, such as a weatherproof jacket, hiking boots or other items, still needs to be purchased.
Go through the packing list ahead of time: The favorite shirt is probably in the wash. So discuss with your child a few days before packing what they want to take on the school trip.
Is the vaccination status up to date? If you're unsure before school trips, consult the pediatrician.
Well packed for the school trip: If the trip goes to a residential school or youth hostel, you usually have to bring bedding as well as towels. Everything is easier to transport in a trolley than in a travel bag.
The right luggage for the school trip: Besides the trolley for everything needed according to the checklist, a light day backpack is useful for outings during the school trip.
Not everyone has to bring everything: The packing list for girls should include a hairdryer. One hairdryer for several people is sufficient. Classmates can also agree on who brings which games.
Your child on a school trip?
Top tips for parents
First time away from home? Make an anxious child look forward to the many great experiences of the next few days. Assure them that you will pick them up if they have severe homesickness. That usually won't be necessary.
Is letting go difficult? Often parents have more trouble with it than the children. If you keep the farewell short despite a lump in your throat, your child can start carefree.
Absolutely off-limits: Even if you're itching to do so, resist making check-in calls during the school trip. Trust your child and the teachers. Be surprised at how much new confidence your child comes back with!
