Treasure hunters — indoors and outdoors on a photo treasure hunt
This version of the game is ideal if you have plenty of time. It turns the treasure hunt, especially in good weather outdoors in the garden, park or woods into a particularly lovely experience, because it makes the whole thing even more exciting. The photo treasure hunt is great fun and helps channel the energy of a lively birthday party into something manageable. For this form of treasure hunt it’s also a good idea to organise support for the preparation and the running of the event.
In 9 easy steps to the perfect photo treasure hunt
In addition to the contents of "Find the Code" you will need a camera or a mobile phone, a printer and 9 envelopes or small bags.
Choose an area for the treasure hunt (e.g. inside the house, in the garden, on the playground, ...).
Photograph 9 locations or items in the chosen area and print them out as photos.
Decide in which order the adventurers should find the locations.
Put the photo of the first location together with the selected puzzle card and the game piece into the Find the Code puzzle box.
Put each of the remaining photos together with a puzzle piece into an envelope. Important: The ninth envelope contains only a puzzle piece and no photo.
At each location, hide the envelope containing the photo of the next location. Example: Inside the puzzle box, alongside the puzzle card and the game piece, there is a photo of the doormat. Under the doormat is an envelope with the first puzzle piece and a photo of the shoe cupboard. In the shoe cupboard there is an envelope with the second puzzle piece and a photo of the bathtub, …
Read the exciting story in the instructions to the children to set the scene, or come up with a new story. Then hand the children the locked treasure chest and the puzzle box.
Introduce the photo treasure hunt with these words: "First, set off to find the place shown in the photo inside the puzzle box. There you will find another photo and one of the puzzle pieces. Follow that photo as well. This way you will gradually find all 9 puzzle pieces."

Treasure found? Quickly crack the code!
If the treasure hunters have found the treasure chest with the puzzle box, including all puzzle pieces, they can now puzzle them together into a treasure map. Then it's time to solve the puzzles on the puzzle cards, place the game piece accordingly, and thus, move by move, figure out the code for the combination lock to find out. How exactly this works and what you need to pay attention to is explained in the game instructions. If the code on the combination lock is correct, the shackle can be opened. If the shackle cannot be opened, the puzzles must be solved again.
Creative tips for treasure hunters
The treasure hunt can be personalised and varied flexibly. Instead of photos, you can also provide steps, GPS coordinates and compass bearings that the children can follow using a sat nav or a compass. As with a classic treasure hunt arrows, scraps and other clues can also be laid out. Not only during Fasching do birthday guests enjoy dressing up and having their faces painted to match the treasure hunt, e.g. as pirates. This way the whole party and the treasure hunt can be themed accordingly. With suitable accessories you can create atmospheric decorations in no time. That makes the treasure hunt even more exciting, adventurous and lively. In role-play the treasure hunters can let their imagination run free and fully immerse themselves in their imaginary play world. As a memento of the treasure hunt, everyone receives a certificate in addition to their party favour. Simply use the HABA certificate template Find the Code:
