The trip begins
Shortly later Paul and his friends are ready to depart in front of his house. Cat Kira is waiting with the flying mouse in her bright red sports car and the parachuting frog sparkles in his white, elegant little racer, racing the sun for brightness. Full of anticipation, Paul rolls excitedly back and forth. Just as they are about to start, someone storms out in front of their hoods on a scooter. It's Paul's neighbor, Colin Crashpilot, a real daredevil. “Hi guys!”, Colin greets everyone exuberantly and casually pushes his sunglasses up onto his round helmet. “I can't believe it, you're having a car race and I'm not invited?!” “Uh, why a car race,” Paul stammers in surprise. But Colin interrupts him: “My freshly polished sports car is just waiting to be driven out! Come on, boys and girls, show me how many horsepower your vehicles have under the hood!”
Paul looks first at Kira and then at the parachuting frog and the flying mouse in astonishment. Everyone shrugs. Once Colin gets something into his head, he doesn't give up easily. Paul starts the engine — it was supposed to be a calm ride, not a wild race! “Stay behind us, we'll show you how to get to the picnic meadow!”, he calls to Colin as they all drive off.
Watch out, it's going to get narrow!
After a few traffic lights they pass fields, meadows and woods. Paul is just admiring the beautiful flowers by the roadside when Colin Crashpilot suddenly speeds past him like lightning. “I hope this goes well, the road gets so narrow here!”, murmurs Cat Kira. Colin turns briefly to wave to his friends, loses control as a result and ends up in a mud hole in the roadside ditch.
The friends immediately stop and rush to Colin. “Are you hurt?”, “Are you okay?”, “Are you all right?”, they call out together in worried voices. Thanks to a good safety device in the car, Colin Crashpilot luckily only has a small scrape. The flying mouse and the parachuting frog quickly fetch the first aid kit and dress Colin's wound.
But the shock is still in his limbs. “What have I done, now my beautiful car is ruined! How are we supposed to pull it out of the mud?” he moans, standing at the roadside with dripping shoes. “But you're almost unhurt, that's much more important,” purrs Cat Kira and takes the racer into her arms. “I'll call my friend Anton right away; he's a tow-master and will surely know what to do,” Paul tries to cheer Colin up.
Anton Towmaster to the rescue
Shortly after, Towmaster Anton examines the race car stuck in the mud thoughtfully. “Oh dear, you should never speed around like that! At least you were buckled up, Colin, otherwise something worse might have happened.” Skillfully he loads the car onto his tow truck and the friends follow behind. In the workshop a big tear rolls down Colin Crashpilot's cheek. “Oh come on, your car will be roadworthy again soon!”, the parachuting frog comforts him.
Suddenly they hear a loud clattering! The friends look at each other questioningly. “Don't worry, nothing happened,” Anton Towmaster reassures them, “it's often loud over here. It's supposed to be that way. But see for yourselves!” “Wow, what's that?”, the car fans exclaim excitedly when they hear a voice. “Hi guys, my name is Steven Stuntman! I'm up here on the crash ramp. We test Kullerbü's cars for safety; things can get pretty loud. You better cover your ears!”, he warns, before rolling down the ramp with momentum.
The crash test track
The friends gasp as Steven Stuntman soars in a high arc off a kind of jump ramp. The mouse covers her paws over her eyes in fright: “Oh no, I can't watch!” Steven Stuntman calmly rolls over to her. “Don't worry, this is normal for me. A bit of risk is part of my job. But I'm an expert in crash tests. Come, I'll show you the site!”
As he explains everything to the friends, they don't know what impresses them more: the great crash test track or Steven Stuntman's bravery. “I've heard about your accident,” he says to Colin Crashpilot. “Thanks to our tests, your car withstood so much and you can keep rolling around healthy and happy!”, he winks at Colin.
After so much excitement, the friends first need a bite to eat. After all, the picnic basket is still full in Paul's car and beside the crash test track there's a lovely meadow. So everyone ends up having a picnic together. Their new friends Anton Towmaster and Steven Stuntman of course also get some of the treats.
