One sunny morning Annelie and Bruno decided to visit the large orchard in their village. The orchard was a magical place full of trees and colorful fruits, but when they arrived it seemed unusually quiet and empty.

Just as Annelie was about to ask if they shouldn't rather go back home, there was a rustling in the crown of a large old tree. Suddenly raven Theo appeared with his shiny black feathers. 'Well, you two adventurers!', croaked Theo cheerfully. 'What brings you to my colorful orchard?'

Annelie and Bruno greeted Theo and answered at the same time:

'We want to find out what our favorite fruit is!' 'Oh, that's an exciting mission!', cried Theo. 'Look around the orchard. Maybe you'll find your answer if you try all the fruits!'

The children set off and first they came to a large apple tree. There frog Camillo hopped about merrily.

'Hello, you two! Try one of these crunchy apples!', croaked Camillo as he did a triple somersault.

'Apples are fun and fresh - just like me!', he added. Annelie and Bruno laughed and tried an apple. 'Delicious!', they cried in chorus and then moved on.

The next tree they reached was the cherry tree. Hedgehog Franz waited there, a bit of cherry juice stuck to his spines. 'Cherries are the best!', Franz shouted and playfully spat a cherry pit over the fence. 'Sweet and strong, that's how cherries must be - just like me!', he added happily. Annelie and Bruno nibbled a few cherries and found them delicious.

They went on to a magnificent pear tree, where cat Dora was taking a nap. 'Hello, children!', she purred as she opened her eyes. 'Try a juicy slice! Nothing beats the soft, sweet taste of a pear.' Annelie and Bruno bit into the pears and let themselves be enchanted by their taste.

Next they came to a tree full of ripe plums. Mouse Holly greeted them eagerly. 'Plums are of course the best!', she explained as she quickly picked a few plums and skillfully juggled them in her little paws. The children each tried a juicy plum and hummed with closed eyes: 'Mmmh, that is really very tasty!'

At the end of their walk the four animals lined up in a row and shouted together: 'Aaaand? What's your favorite fruit now?'

Annelie and Bruno looked at each other and thoughtfully scratched their heads. For they were unsure because they liked all the fruits. And of course they didn't want to disappoint any of the animals either.

Then raven Theo fluttered over with a brilliant idea. In his beak he held a basket with a fresh fruit tart.

'Here is the solution!', Theo cried proudly.

'This tart combines apples, pears, cherries and plums!'

The children and all the animals gathered around the tart and tried a piece. 'This is perfect!', Annelie and Bruno cheered. Everyone agreed: the fruit tart was the tastiest thing they had ever eaten. And so no one had to choose just one fruit.

Happy and full they spent the rest of the afternoon together and promised to come back soon.
