Appointments – what to expect in the 7th month?
U5: If the U5 check wasn’t carried out in the sixth month, now is the right time. You can discuss any outstanding questions with your paediatrician and get advice if needed.
Make your home childproof: As your child becomes more mobile, it’s time to remove hazards from your home. This includes, for example, fitting stair gates and socket covers, and securely fixing shelves and cabinets to the wall. Children who already pull themselves up on furniture have better footing with non-slip socks .
PEKiP: PEKiP courses are very popular and are offered almost everywhere. The Prager Eltern-Kind-Programm is a concept for early support that aims to strengthen the parent–child bond through play, provide contact with children of the same age, stimulate play, movement and the senses, and offer the opportunity to exchange experiences with other parents. You can join a PEKiP course from the U3 check until the time your child starts to walk.
Important developmental milestones in the 7th month
Sense of touch: Babies now explore objects increasingly with their hands. Their sense of touch is developed enough to distinguish between warm and cold or soft and hard. Integration of sensory perceptions: At around seven months, babies can combine different sensory impressions. Your child now understands that, for example, visual and auditory cues can come from the same source, such as a toy that makes a sound.
Sitting: Many babies try to sit up at seven months. Give your baby time for this development – if you put them into a sitting position too early, it can harm the spine.
Mobility: Some babies may already begin to creep. You can encourage their urge to move by positioning favourite toys just out of reach.
Bouncing: Babies love their newfound mobility and strength. For many seven-month-olds, bouncing while standing or sitting on a parent's lap is the greatest fun.
Courage: A baby's curiosity to discover new things remains undiminished. Strengthen the bond with your child through shared activities and encourage them to explore new things.
Perception: Your baby can now recognise you in the mirror or in photos. When your baby sees you in the mirror, they turn to face you. However, it will still be some time before they recognise themselves.
How much should my child weigh at 7 months?
Your child weighs between 7,600 and 8,300 grams in the seventh month and is about 67 to 69 centimetres long. As your baby is now very agile and moves a lot, the abdominal and back muscles are becoming increasingly developed.
