Appointments – What's scheduled in the 9th month?
Childcare: Many parents return to work after about a year with their baby. If you haven't found a daycare place yet, care by a childminder is a good alternative. You can find childminders in your area, for example online or through the youth welfare office – maybe you can already arrange an introductory meeting now.
Music class: Babies love music and at nine months they follow different rhythms and melodies with fascination. A music class for babies and toddlers is a great way to sing with your baby, sway to the beat and try out movements to the songs to try out. In addition, the early musical education is a lovely way to meet peers. Parents can exchange ideas and also make new contacts.
Important developmental milestones in the 9th month
Sitting: Most babies can sit steadily and look around by nine months. Sitting up now also works from the prone position. From this position the little ones can best start crawling.
Motor skills: At nine months your baby can already grasp deliberately and transfer objects from one hand to the other. More than holding things in the hand, babies love dropping objects. Many babies can clap their hands and wave by nine months.
Hide-and-seek: At nine months most babies understand that things that move out of their sight are not gone. Hide-and-seek or the 'peekaboo' game are now popular.
Play partners: Besides the mother, other play partners such as the father or the uncle are becoming increasingly important.
Seeing and understanding: By nine months your baby understands that objects can be inside other objects. Thanks to fully developed eyesight and well-developed fine motor skills, your child is nimble enough to fish smaller objects out of larger ones.
Crawling or scooting: By the tenth month many children learn to crawl or scoot. Many initially only scoot backwards, but learn to control their movements better every day.
Language development: Your baby begins to imitate verbal sounds. It babbles to itself or may already be able to form some syllables like ma-ma or bu-bu.
How much should my child weigh in the 9th month?
Your baby will continue to grow taller but will still gain weight more slowly. In the ninth month it is 70 to 72 centimeters tall and weighs between 8.200 and 8.900 grams. The facial features gradually elongate and your child is slowly losing baby fat.
