Glitter, icing and gold chests – the theme as a source of inspiration

How do you know you've found the right theme for the children's birthday? It's simple: choose the theme that creates a whole world in your and your child's mind. Because the theme serves not only as inspiration for the decoration. Also the Invitations, the food, the birthday cake, the music selection and the clothing or costumes can be tailored to the party theme. For example, Unicorns for the children's birthday, they almost always bring their friends along: glitter, fluff and rainbows. These three attributes then run throughout the entire design of the children's birthday: a unicorn on rainbow paper adorns the invitation, all important information is highlighted with the help of a glitter pen. The birthday cake shines thanks to food coloring in all the colors of the rainbow. Rhubarb juice becomes Rainbow Juice. Cotton candy with edible glitter provides the fluff factor. Dark and light grapes, kiwis, pineapples and strawberries make the healthiest rainbow in the world. Hairbands with a homemade unicorn and fluffy felt ears turn the crowd of children into a whole herd of unicorns. And of course America's 'The Last Unicorn' must not be missing. The same works with all other themes. Just take a little time and brainstorm together what could be implemented. When searching for the theme for the children's birthday, feel free to become a child again.

From preference to theme

Don't know where to start? Just think about what your child loves to do most. Do they love animals? Do they press their nose against the oven when the cupcakes rise? Or can they recite all the Disney films by heart? In everything your child enjoys doing there is potential for a good theme.

Animals: Animals are a truly rewarding theme. How about a safari party? Or a celebration in a circus tent? Sea or jungle creatures also make a children's birthday a special experience.

Fairy tales: Bring 'Alice in Wonderland' or one of the Brothers Grimm's fairy tales to life. Every child knows and loves 'Little Red Riding Hood' or 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'.

Video games: Bring your child's virtual friends into the real world and celebrate an unforgettable party with them. Characters from 'Super Mario' or 'Pokémon' make children's eyes light up.

Disney: It doesn't necessarily have to be 'Beauty and the Beast'. Above all the Minions are particularly popular with the little ones. But 'Cars' or 'Finding Nemo' also provide perfect templates for a great birthday.

Fruit: A type of fruit as a party theme? Sounds crazy at first. But for example, watermelon or strawberry parties make many children's hearts beat faster.

Magic: Apprentice wizards, witches, fairies - anything that brings a little magic into your child's life and onto the party is a good idea. Maybe the right accessories are even still in the attic from Halloween.

Trends: We have already explained the unicorn trend in detail. But the DIY trend also offers plenty of potential for a lovely party, especially when it comes to tasty treats. Host a cupcake or cake-pop baking session or let the kids make their own chocolate or delicious sweets.

Active themes for active kids

Children like to be active and also enjoy puzzles. Combine both and turn the children's birthday into a Scavenger hunt. The big advantage: the little ones are occupied and let off steam. Meanwhile you can calmly clear the cake table and prepare dinner. You can of course also give the scavenger hunt an exciting theme. How about, for example, a Pirate party and the matching Treasure hunt? Eye patches, skull-and-crossbones flags and gold chests are quickly crafted. So that the little guests can more easily be transported into the world of Captain Jack Sparrow, we have put together templates and recipes for you to download. Have fun crafting. And always remember: No matter what the theme ultimately is, the most important ingredients for a successful children's birthday are fun and imagination.
