DIY Halloween Invitations: Creative Ideas

Making the Halloween invitations together with the kids gets everyone in the mood for the spooky party in advance. It's especially great when the cards match the theme of the children's Halloween party. Use the Halloween motif on the invitation for this. Are you throwing a ghost party in a haunted castle? Then a ghost or a haunted castle should also be visible on the invitation. There are many possibilities for the design. Let your creativity run free.

There are roughly three types of cards:

Motif cards:Motif cards take the shape of a creepy Halloween figure. The invitation can, for example, look like a ghost, a pumpkin or a bat. For this you use a template whose outline you trace onto construction paper. Then you can cut out your invitation and add your invitation text.
Foldable cards:Foldable cards are a classic among invitations. Here you can decorate the front with a spooky Halloween motif, for example a pumpkin or a spiderweb, and write text and a phrase on the inside. You can also cut a window into the front and optionally cover it with translucent paper.
Postcards:If you want to design your Halloween invitation on a single sheet, then postcards are the right choice. You don't necessarily have to use the postcard format. You can also use A5 format or any other size if you need more space for your design. Both the front and the back can be written on and decorated.

Making Halloween invitation cards from construction paper

Colorful invitation cards for the Halloween party are created from cut and folded construction paper. Together with your child you can design the front. The invitation text is written on the inside or on the back of the card.

All you need for this is construction cardboard/paper in different colors, craft scissors and, depending on the motif, the following:

Spiderweb (gel pens):On black construction paper an eerie spiderweb can easily be spun with a silver or white gel pen.
Monster card (craft glue):If you don't fold the construction cardboard in the middle, you can easily make a monster card. To do this, fold the paper so that the bottom is longer than the top. Cut circles and triangles from construction paper in another color to become the monster's eyes and teeth. Draw pupils in the circles and then the monster's face can be glued on. If you glue the teeth to the bottom edge of the front, it will look when opened as if the monster is opening its creepy mouth.
Halloween motifs (printer, craft glue, optionally napkins):You can decorate the front of the construction paper with great Halloween or autumn motifs. Slightly older children can also decorate the invitations with napkin technique. For this, choose a paper napkin with Halloween motifs and attach it to the card with glue.
Spooky bat:Paint the toilet paper roll black and draw two wings on black construction paper (remember to leave an extra area for gluing) that your child can cut out. Once the wings are attached to the roll, all that's left is the face and the dangerous fangs, which can be easily painted onto the bat.
Little mummy:(additionally needed: gauze bandages, googly eyes) Paint the roll white first and let it dry. Then glue on the googly eyes and wrap with a gauze bandage. For this variant you don't necessarily need crepe paper, because you can seal the ends with the bandage. To prevent slipping, drop a little glue on the gauze strips while wrapping.
Hairy spider:(additionally needed: black pipe cleaners, a googly eye, sharp pencil) Paint the roll black. Then you can paint a face with white paint. The eyes look especially creepy if you use googly eyes for them. Then poke four holes on each side of the roll with the pencil and insert the cut pipe cleaners as spider legs.

Creepy invitation texts: How to spook the guests beforehand

So that the little guests get a pleasant shiver down their spine even before the party, you can make not only the invitation card but also the text spooky. Think together with your child about what the text should say. A suitable phrase creates the right atmosphere and increases anticipation. You can also type it on the computer and choose a particularly eerie font. After printing, the guest's name can be handwritten by the proud host – possibly with help.
