This game variant is suitable if you have a lot of time. It makes the treasure hunt, especially in good weather outdoors in a garden, park or forest into a particularly wonderful experience, because it becomes even more exciting that way. The photo treasure hunt is incredibly fun and also cleverly channels the energy of a rowdy birthday bunch. For this form of treasure hunt, it is also good to arrange support for preparation and execution.

In 9 easy steps to the perfect photo treasure hunt

  1. In addition to the contents of "Find the Code", you will need a camera or a phone, a printer, and 9 envelopes or small bags.

  2. Choose an area for the treasure hunt (e.g. in the house, in the garden, on the playground, ...).

  3. Take photos of 9 locations or objects in the chosen area and print them out as photos.

  4. Decide in what order the adventurers should find the locations.

  5. Place the photo of the first location together with the selected puzzle card and the playing piece into the puzzle box of "Find the Code".

  6. Place each of the remaining photos together with a puzzle piece into an envelope. Attention: In the ninth envelope there is only a puzzle piece and no photo.

  7.  At each location, hide the envelope containing the photo of the next location. Example: In the puzzle box, in addition to the puzzle card and the playing piece, there is a photo of the doormat. Under the doormat is an envelope with the first puzzle piece and a photo of the shoe cabinet. In the shoe cabinet there is an envelope with the second puzzle piece and a photo of the bathtub, …

  8. Read the exciting story in the instructions to the children to set the mood, or think up a new story. Then hand the sealed treasure chest and the puzzle box to the children.

  9. Introduce the photo treasure hunt with these words: "First, go in search of the place shown in the photo in the puzzle box. You will find another photo there as well as one of the puzzle pieces. Follow that photo as well. This way you will gradually find all 9 puzzle pieces."

If the treasure hunters have found the treasure chest with the puzzle box, including all puzzle pieces, they can nowA0puzzle it together into a treasure map. Then it's time to solve the riddles on the riddle cards, place the game piece accordingly and, move by move, figure out theA0code for the combination lockA0to find out. How exactly this works and what to watch out for is explained in the game instructions. If the code in the combination lock is correct, the shackle can be opened. If the shackle cannot be opened, the puzzles must be solved again.

The treasure hunt can be designed individually and varied flexibly. Instead of photos, steps, GPS coordinates and compass directions can also be specified, which the children then follow using a navigation device or compass. As with a classic scavenger hunt arrows, scraps and other clues can also be laid out. Not only during carnival season is it fun for the birthday guests, dressing up and wearing makeup to match the treasure hunt, e.g. as pirates.
