Accident in the Snow
When Paul and his parents are sitting at breakfast one morning, the telephone suddenly rings. From Mom's expression Paul immediately realizes that it is not good news. 'Oh dear, oh dear,' she moans several times and shakes her head worriedly. 'Please stay where you are,' she finally says. 'We'll send help. Everything will be fine!' Excited, she returns to the breakfast table and calls out, 'Imagine what happened: Kati and Kalle got stuck in the snow with their convertibles on the way here, just before Kullerbü!' Suddenly Paul becomes very sad. After all, he had been so looking forward to his cousin Kati and his cousin Kalle visiting. The two are several years older than Paul and already drive cars. Paul's dad immediately reaches for the receiver to call the tow truck, but they're very busy today and can only help later. 'We'll have to think of something else,' Paul's dad muses, and suddenly he has an idea: 'If the roads are full of snow, we'll just need a plane. I'll call the Flying Mice right away; they'll surely help us!'
A few minutes later a loud rattling noise can be heard outside the house. The mice are on final approach and try to land the plane on the road in front of the house, but that's not so easy with all the snow and ice. Eventually they manage it and Paul's dad climbs in quickly to show them the way to Kati and Kalle. Paul would also have liked to fly along, but his mom doesn't allow it. It doesn't take long before the two colorful convertibles of Kati and Kalle come into view, stuck in a drift of snow. 'Hello Kati, hello Kalle,' Paul's dad calls down to them and waves energetically to get their attention. 'We'll pull your cars out of the snow!'
Rescue by Flying Mice
Skillfully he throws a rope out of the plane for Kati and Kalle to tie their cars together. In the meantime the Flying Mice make another loop in the sky. Then Paul's dad throws down a second, longer rope, which they finally attach to the first car. 'Are you ready?' Paul's dad calls down, and Kalle gives him the OK sign. The Flying Mice start off cautiously and pull the two cars out of the snow with a jerk and then up the steep hill that leads to Kullerbü. Excited cheers break out again and again from the two convertibles. Kati and Kalle have never had so much fun on the drive to Kullerbü!
When they finally arrive safely in front of Paul and his parents' house, everyone is relieved. 'Come inside quickly,' Paul's mom calls, waiting at the front door together with her son. 'We have set the table in the meantime so you can warm up with tea and cake!' And of course no one needs to be asked twice.
