Appointments and activities – What’s coming up in the 19th month?
Get a potty or toilet seat:There used to be a common rule: children are dry by two years old. Today it is known that every child has its own pace. If your child is one of those who becomes dry early, it’s good to be prepared. If your child signals when they need to go, you can slowly start with the Potty training start. And even if it takes a few more months: simply put the potty in the bathroom. That way your child can get to know it and will understand what it’s for. If your child is more interested in the toilet because they are familiar with it from you parents, a toilet seat is the right choice.
Important developmental milestones in the 19th month
Energy: Toddlers seem to have boundless energy. Their favorite activity now is Rough play and dancing. Outdoors is the best place for little ones to satisfy their urge to move.
Balance:At 19 months, toddlers’ sense of balance is developed enough that they can easily crouch down and stand up again. They can carry objects while walking.
Mobility:As soon as they’ve learned it, walking already becomes secondary. Many children now love Bobby Cars and other ride-on toys. Most toddlers get along fairly well moving forward – steering is the skill they still need to learn.
Fine motor skills:Even small objects like crayons can now be held and moved precisely enough for first pictures or scribbles to appear. Towers are built from building blocks and are often knocked down again for fun. Sorting and stacking toys remain engaging.
Rest periods:Depending on whether your child still takes an afternoon nap or has several short rest breaks, many toddlers now enter a phase where they need fewer breaks. Most children still take an afternoon nap, but it often becomes shorter. However, it is quite possible that phases will return in which your child needs more sleep again.
