Which sports am I allowed to do during pregnancy?
Adequate exercise is especially important during pregnancy. On the one hand, physical activity stimulates circulation and metabolism and helps keep typical pregnancy ailments at bay. On the other hand, light strength and endurance training is good preparation for the exertions of childbirth. However, high-risk sports and sports with a high risk of accidents should be taboo during pregnancy so that you do not unnecessarily endanger yourself and your baby's health.
Can I jog while pregnant?
Yes. If you feel comfortable doing so, you may continue your running sessions until the end of pregnancy. It is important that you do not aim for peak athletic performance, but run calmly without getting out of breath. In the last months most women prefer to switch to light walking.
Can I ride while pregnant?
In principle, yes. However, a risk cannot be denied, which is why many doctors advise against riding during pregnancy. Especially when riding out in the countryside there is a risk of falls and accidents with the horse. If you feel comfortable and take things a little slower overall on the horse, though, there is nothing against riding during pregnancy.
Is it okay to have an occasional glass of wine near the end of pregnancy?
No. You often hear that half a glass of wine in the last months of pregnancy does not harm. However, it is not possible to say at what minimum amount alcohol during pregnancy will harm a baby; therefore doctors and scientists agree that pregnant women should completely avoid alcohol.
Can I drink coffee during pregnancy?
Yes. For a long time it was thought that pregnant women should completely avoid coffee, black tea or cola because too much caffeine during pregnancy was associated with low birth weight. New studies, however, conclude that an amount of up to 300 mg of caffeine daily during pregnancy is harmless. That corresponds to about three cups of coffee, six cups of black tea or three to four glasses of cola.
Can I eat smoked fish and smoked meat during pregnancy?
Better not. Fish in general is recommended during pregnancy, but raw-cured, salted or smoked fish products can contain various bacteria. Some sea fish species, such as tuna, are also contaminated with pollutants. You should also avoid air-dried or raw-smoked ham if you want to be on the safe side.
Can I cycle during pregnancy?
Yes. If you feel fit and your bump is not in the way, you can safely cycle until the end of pregnancy. Many women even notice a positive effect, as the movement stimulates circulation and, for example, helps prevent varicose veins.

Can you go to the sauna while pregnant?
Yes. If mother and child are healthy, there is nothing against going to the sauna until the end of pregnancy. Inexperienced sauna-goers should take it easy, though. If there is premature uterine activity, the sauna is off-limits to avoid the risk of preterm birth.
Can you dye your hair while pregnant?
Yes. Since only the scalp comes into contact with the chemical dyes or bleaches, only minimal amounts, if any, are absorbed by the body. Plant-based dyes like henna are also harmless. However, at the beginning of pregnancy you should still refrain from dyeing. The skin often reacts more sensitively than usual.
Is it okay to use a tanning bed while pregnant?
Better not. Intense UV radiation is a potential health risk even for non-pregnant people. Pregnant women, however, are additionally prone to developing dark pigment spots on the face and body due to hormonal changes when they are exposed to sunlight or artificial UV radiation.
Is sex allowed during pregnancy?
Yes. Your baby is well protected in the uterus and will not be harmed at any time during pregnancy if you have sex. As long as you feel comfortable and do not have pain, sex during pregnancy is completely fine.
