Hello, I'm Colin!
Have you ever been to the zoo? Today Mom is going to the zoo with Matze and me. I'm really excited, because I love animals! And at the zoo you can look at many animals that I've never seen in real life — only in books or in movies. The sandwiches for the picnic are prepared, so we can get going. „The Africa section is the most exciting! That's where the biggest animals are“, Matze explains. „Let's go straight to the giraffes!“ Mom and I can hardly keep up, Matze hurries so much. Come along quickly!
Like in the savanna
At last he stops at a fence. The landscape behind it looks like the wide grasslands of Africa called the savanna. In the large enclosure tall giraffes stride majestically among zebras. I like the zebras! They look like black-and-white striped ponies. The giraffes amaze Matze: „Amazing how big they are and such a long neck! Like a brontosaurus!“
The king of beasts
Right next door the mighty lion prowls through his territory. Matze is thrilled: „Have you ever heard a lion roar?“, he asks me. „That really makes an impression!“ This lion looks a bit like Matze's cat Sally, except she doesn't have such an impressive dark-brown mane. He also has huge paws that really look like Sally's, only much bigger. We watch the lion expectantly, but he strolls back and forth and, unfortunately, doesn't roar.
New arrivals among the pachyderms
„Come over here. There's something to see!“, Mom calls to us. She has already gone on to the next enclosure. „Look at those big tusks!“, Matze marvels at a mighty elephant. The elephant doesn't have any fur, but a thick, gray skin. „Oh, look!!“ I shout excitedly. „There's a very small one — a baby!“ A young elephant peeks out from behind the big one. He lifts his trunk curiously. Matze and I wave happily to the little fellow and indeed he dares to come out from behind his mother and toddles a few steps toward us. Matze gushes: „Isn't he cute!“ I couldn't agree more. The little one has such a funny tuft of hair on his head!
A Little Friends zoo for your home
I can't take my eyes off the baby elephant. Something growls beside me. Matze gives me a shrugging look. „That was my stomach. I'm starving!“ „Then let's have a picnic. Mom packed us tasty sandwiches“, I suggest. We find a bench in the shade and enjoy the sandwiches. „What shall we see next?“, asks Matze. „The petting zoo!“, I shout decisively. You could spend days here at the zoo! Don't you think so?
