With his small yellow submarine, Bruno raced through the shimmering depths of the ocean. The submarine looked a bit like a friendly anglerfish, with a glowing lamp on a tube that bravely lit the way. Bruno loved his underwater adventures, but on this day he was about to make a very special discovery.

Suddenly something tapped softly on the window of his submarine. Bruno looked up and saw a smiling face. It was a mermaid girl, with shimmering fins and sparkling hair that seemed as mysterious as the sea waves themselves. She waved to him cheerfully. Bruno felt his sense of adventure flare up. He quickly grabbed his snorkel and swam out to her.

But how could he talk to her? The mermaid giggled and conjured a large air bubble that docked onto the top of Bruno's snorkel. 'With this you can breathe and speak without problems. Try it out!' said the mermaid. When he introduced himself and asked her name, his words bubbled away like funny little bubbles. But the mermaid understood him well anyway and answered laughing: 'You're funny, Bruno! My name is Annelie.'

Together they swam through the colorful underwater world that Annelie called her home. There they met a cheerful orange fish who was trying to cheer up a rather grumpy red crab. The crab held up a golden ring that the fish had found in the reef. Bruno laughed when he saw how the crab had to smirk after all because he was so happy about the glittering gift.

Not far away Annelie and Bruno discovered a pink seahorse that was excitedly twirling around a magnificent octopus. The octopus seemed to have a special trick: it changed its color to the rhythm of the music to which the seahorse was dancing! Bruno clapped his hands enthusiastically, and Annelie said that the octopus threw the best parties in the whole sea.

At some distance a sleepy green pufferfish swam leisurely over the seabed. He settled down next to a gray ray with blue spots that looked as if it had just woken from a dream. Both seemed so peaceful and relaxed that Annelie and Bruno spoke very quietly so as not to disturb the calm. Bruno thought it was wonderful how different all the sea creatures were—and yet they all lived together in harmony.

Eventually they reached the end of their exploration. But before Bruno could swim back to his submarine, they encountered a large tiger shark with an especially wide grin. The tiger shark swam curiously around Bruno and Annelie and showed great interest in the yellow submarine, which he absolutely wanted to see up close. Annelie explained that this tiger shark was indeed big and strong, but had a huge heart and lived very peacefully with the other sea creatures.

Bruno was thrilled by all the stories and adventures Annelie had shared with him. But it was slowly time to say goodbye. Bruno thanked Annelie with all his heart for the wonderful tour through her breathtaking, wondrous world and promised her he would come back soon.

'Next time I'll bring you a gift from the surface,' Bruno announced before he swam back to his submarine. Annelie smiled and waved to him cheerfully. Both were sure that this was only the beginning of a wonderful friendship.

With new stories in his head and full of anticipation for their next meeting, Bruno made his way back to the surface while the sea passed him by from his submarine like a sparkling dream.
