Thomas Sing, born in 1961, lives in Konstanz on Lake Constance. The graduate economist runs a large kiosk there with friends. That gives him enough time for his hobbies: mathematics, reading crime novels and, of course, inventing games. In his school days Thomas Sing was a world record holder in playing 'Mensch-Ärgere-Dich-Nicht' and thus made his way into the Guinness Book of Records.

The Illustrator

Timo Grubing, born in 1981, studied illustration at FH Münster and has lived since receiving his diploma in 2007 back in his hometown Bochum. As a freelance illustrator he works in a wide range of fields: he illustrates children's and school books, games, and regularly works for magazines and agencies.

Rüdiger Dorn was born in 1969 in Ibbenbüren (North Rhine-Westphalia) but grew up in Lower Bavaria. After training as a bank clerk he studied business education at the University of Nuremberg. Today Rüdiger Dorn works as a qualified commercial teacher in Gunzenhausen. The passionate gamer began developing his own ideas already in his youth. At HABA he published a game for the first time in 1992 – 'Cameo'. Among his most successful games to date are 'Istanbul' (Expert Game of the Year 2014) and 'Las Vegas' (nominated for Game of the Year 2012).

The Illustrator

Claus Stephan, born in 1960, is married, has a daughter and lives in Duisburg. He initially wanted to be a secret agent or astronaut, then a musician or comic artist, artist or geography teacher. Via the detour of becoming an advertising designer he ended up illustrating games and books. Among the numerous awards for his game illustrations are 'Keltis' (Game of the Year 2008) and 'Bonnie & Clyde' (Graf Ludo 2009). His credo: 'Finding a good balance between form and function in a team with editors and authors is an exciting and rewarding task when designing games.'

Valley of the Vikings

The Authors

That combining professional and private life can indeed work is demonstrated by Marie and Wilfried Fort. They are happily married, have two sons and live in the quiet Saint Colomban region near Nantes (France). For several years they have also worked successfully together as game authors. In February 2017 HABA became aware of the author duo at the Festival International des Jeux in Cannes.

The Illustrator

Maximilian Meinzold is a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. With his convincing characters and his love of detail, he repeatedly manages to create just the right game atmosphere. He lives and works in Munich and has specialized in the fields of fantasy, science fiction and children's and youth literature. His work has already been nominated for numerous awards.
